Sexting bills try to lessen offender charges for teens

An article found via Reuters talks about a bill in Connecticut and that there are several other bills working to become laws that will stop horny teens from getting the full charges of a child pornographer when they text nudie pictures to each other.

I have talked to shocked parents that find out their teenagers could be found guilty of child porn and have to register as a sex offender for the rest of their lives when their cell phone gets lost / stolen or found with pictures of girlfriends and boyfriends in the buff.

Several states are working on laws to fix that.

Delight vibrator gets good housekeeping’s best sex toy rating

Fun factory’s “delight” S shaped vibrator / g-spot silicone sex toy gets the number one rating in the October issue of Good Housekeeping (U.K. edition). I was surprised to see a sex toy rated by what I had thought of as an old-timey magazine, and glad to see that times are changing, in many ways.

I stumbled across an article from fox news talking about the upcoming issue and it’s rating of the best vibrators as tested by a group of it’s readers. Unfortunately I could not find the article when I clicked the link in the article. I am guessing that they have one of those auto-detect things on their web site that takes me to the USA version since I am not in the UK.

The only thing I could find on the USA version of their “allaboutyou.com” was a lame article about sex toys that look like art or other objects “that you might want to leave out when you have visitors”. Quite lame, although I did enjoy the porcelain hollow dildo pictured, it had a cork and could be filled with hot water or cold water for “temperature play”. So the USA version of good housekeeping is still prude, even though the U.K. edition found that only 13% of it’s sex toy testers were vibrator virgins.

So I continued my online research, hoping to find another article or blog that would list what good housekeeping had decided were the best sex toys from the reader’s (aged 30 – 65) thorough testing. I found an article posted by the register that listed four of the top rated from the magazine.

Deputy ed June Walton said “it’s widely recognized that many young, single women own vibrators, our survey discovered that they’re just as popular among our readers” – Well I find that statement not only ignorant, but stereotypical, and it is proof of the ignorance of these old time publications, how out of touch in certain areas they have been for years.

Sex toys party go green too

There has been some talk and news in the sex toys industry the past year or two talking about making sex toys from phthalate free materials. Now it seems that the “green monster” that is taking over our pop culture has made it’s way to sex toys parties as well. I’m not aware of any real health issues from sex toy use, aside from some people who found their private parts irritated if they have a latex allergy. I am glad that the adult industry is taking a proactive approach to manufacturing and advertising dildos and vibrators that are made from healthier materials. If nothing else it will help people to become more aware of the materials used in all the products we purchase, for the bedroom, or not.

I have seen many sex toys labeled phthalate free over the past year, but we need to remember that there have been healthy “green” sex toys available for years. Quality silicone based sex toys are made from medical grade silicone and they are a non porous, non leaching material. Not only are they healthy as far as the materials themselves, but they are easier to get really clean, since they are non porous.

Silicone sex toys can be washed in a dishwasher, put into hot water before use, or put in the freezer to make them cold. The silicone based “personal products” for men and women usually cost a bit more than the latex ones, but they last longer. So the next time you are shopping for your next “marital aid”, keep an eye out for the phthalate free labeling, but also compare to the silicone based toys in the same genre, as they have been green and healthy for years.

George Clooney movie helps boost sex toy sales

Who would of thought that having some sex toys in a movie with George Clooney would boost sex toy sales? Well I certainly thought so! I saw the huge increase in awareness and sales of the infamous rabbit vibrator (and the many variants of rabbit styled vibrators) when they were featured in sex and the city. George Clooney is not just a sex symbol these days, but also respected by many, even if his character in a recent movie was that of a sex addict, George having sex toys makes it easier for the rest of us to possess them.

It’s a combination of him as a respected person, a sex symbol, and added curiosity of advanced sex techniques that I believe have led to the increase in sex toy sales because of the portrayal in the movie. Certainly the way that the sex toys were portrayed in the movie have a lot to do with it as well. I doubt the small segment of Austin Powers being caught with a penis pump did much more than raise the awareness (and ignorance) about such devices. The movie with Mike Myers only added to the stigma of penis pumps as male sexual enhancers as being something to be embarrassed about, not something that celebrities would want to be caught with.

I am glad the Clooney movie showed sex toys as a way to take sex to the next level, something that advanced sexual beings would employ, and even carry around with them. Certainly movies have made it more acceptable to carry around condoms, now if they would only make it seem less an issue to actually buy condoms! I was so disappointed to the the last Chris Rock movie show an embarrassing scene with him trying to acquire condoms at the corner store.

In real life I have never been chastised for buying condoms, or sex toys, now if we can continue to show these purchases, possession, and use in a positive manner in movies and other pop culture media, perhaps America will move into an age of having more satisfied and safe sexual lives. The latest film burn after reading has certainly helped move us in that direction, and for that I am thankful.
